Radio Solutions
Point To MultipointRadio Solution-. This is a corporate wireless service which involves the installation of one (1) external equipment (antenna) and an internal equipment (router) This solution is useful for companies who have more than 5 PCs and need high bandwidth for downloads and uploads. The limitation of this solution is that it can only be delivered where Africa Online has a Point of Presence through a Base Station. In Ghana, we have Points of Presence in Accra-Tema, Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi. Once the customer is outside the effective coverage area of the Base Station, the next option one has for the corporate solution is either through a Point to Point or a VSAT solution. The advantages of the Radio solution are that it is cost effective both in terms of the hardware and monthly recurring.
Point To Point Radio Solution- This is a radio connection where a pair (2) of wireless equipment is installed in order to make the complete connection. One of the equipment is installed at the customer premises and the other one at an Africa Online Base Station. This kind of solution is necessary for clients who are outside the coverage area of the Base Stations for radio solutions. Some clients can also be within the coverage area but their bandwidth needs are so high that it will be necessary to do a Point To Point connection.
VSAT- When a client is outside the coverage area of the Base Station and the Point to Point connection, the next option is to do VSAT which is the acronym for Very Small Aperture Terminal. This is a direct to Satellite connection and is not limited by Africa Online’s coverage area. It can therefore be deployed anywhere.
VPN- Assuming a client has an office with a remote branch office-it is possible for the head office to connect to the remote branch so that the remote branch can access files and data located at the head office as if both offices were located in the same physical location. The VPN can be constructed using a combination of Radios and VSATs depending on the locations of the branches. The connection between the head office and the remote branch is a private network also called a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in that it is not open for public use. This connection between the branches is a secure tunnel over which any application that is run at the head office can be accessed by the remote office like Video Surveillance Systems, Voice over IP (VOIP), Access Control Systems etc.
